Pianist Arnan Wiesel is a winner of national and international prizes. A finalist in the Sydney Piano Competition, his career as solo and chamber musician has taken him to Australia, USA, Europe, Asia, New Zealand and Israel.

He started his studies with his grandmother, German born Alice Schmuckler-Hess, and Pnina Salzman. He graduated from the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia where he studied with Seymour Lipkin and Gary Graffman, as well as having lessons with Jorge Bolet and Mieczysław Horszowski. Arnan had masterclasses with Alfred Brendel, Radu Lupu, Claude Frank and others.

Concert appearances include concertos with the Stuttgart Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Hamburg Mozart Orchestra, Danska Sinfonietta and solo recitals in important music centres such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Münchner Gasteig, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Zurich, Geneva, Budapest and Moscow, as well as appearances at the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, Insel-Hombroich and Münchner-Klaviersommer Festivals in Germany, and the Israel Festival.

Since taking up residence in Australia, he has performed with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Australia Ensemble, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, in the Adelaide Festival, the Hunter and Huntington Festivals, and in the Canberra Chamber Music Festival. He appeared in the NZ Piano Festival in Wellington. He performed recitals in several ABC live concerts. Other projects included the performance of the complete J.S.Bach Keyboard works; as part of this project he also performed the Goldberg Variations on the Clavichord.

Arnan acted as Head of the Keyboard Area at the ANU SoM from 2010 – 2012 and was Artistic Director of the Australian International Chopin Piano Competition held in 2011. He was the co-founder and first president of the ACT Keyboard Association.

During his time at the ANU School of Music he was the Outreach Convenor and curated numerous community activities such as a collaboration of masterclasses and concerts with the CGGS, Eingana chamber music ensemble concerts, and Regional Conservatorium NSW collaborations. He was the co-organiser of the Antarctica Sound and Cultural Connections conference.

Arnan is currently teaching privately in Canberra (Ainslie Arts Centre) and Yass where he is happy to help students at all levels of playing.
